The beginning of this story goes back to the late 1700's when Honore Timothee Louis Simard and his wife Genevieve Gauthier started their family. The first six children were boys and the last four were girls.
At least two of those children went on to have their own families, John Baptiste and Isaac Clement.

Five Generations removed from John Baptiste Simard is Arthur. Five generations removed from Isaac Clement Simard is Yvonne. Yvonne and Arthur married and had one child. We have all heard that cousins shouldn't marry, but what about 5th cousins?
From what I can tell, fourth cousins have as different DNA as most strangers, so fifth cousins should not have any problems that come from being closely related. The situation came from the families of John Baptiste and Isaac immigrating from Canada to the same rural area in Michigan.
