My attempt to create a story that goes along with my family tree.

Rodefer

Here is a summary of my husband's side of the family. If anyone is related to the Rodefer family and has done a DNA test, please contact me on ancestry.com. My username is engineerkate. You can leave a message for me here, but for some reason I don't always get alerts for messages here.

The Rodefer family dates back to colonial America, and descendants have been members of Daughters of the American Revolution.

At one point, Rodefer Glass Company in Bellaire, Ohio. was owned by some Rodefer siblings.

In fact, John Rodefer Sr. helped found the town of Bellaire, Ohio.

Descendants from the above tree:

Albert Rodefer Tree

Thornton Rodefer Tree
(24 Jun 2015, added Stephen Rodefer)

John Franklin Rodefer Tree

Charles W Rodefer Tree

I do not have information on the other Rodefer descendants from the Albert Rodefer generation. I know there are relatives I am missing.

Interesting note, Stephen Rodefer, son of Dorothy and Howard Rodefer. He is an American poet. I'll have to do more research into that branch next time I have a subscription to ancestry.com

The person relevant to my tree is John Franklin Rodefer.
His obituary:
Indianapolis News. January 7, 1932 page 4.

The Daughters of John Franklin Rodefer

Venice was a teacher. She married Noble Grant Knotts on September 15 1898. She died a year later after giving birth. I think the child survived, and was Nathan T Knotts.

Virginia Bell attended Indiana University and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  She was also involved in the national organization as an adult. She was born in Bellaire, Ohio, but lived most of her life in or near Indianapolis, Indiana. She married Charles Albert Harris in 1907. She died in 1952
See also my Harris page: http://seymourtree.blogspot.com/p/harris.html

Velma Kate was also a member of KKGamma.  She was a teacher and lived in several different places.
1881 October 31- Born Bellaire Ohio
1900 Elwood City, Indiana (1900 Federal Census)
1910 Boise, Idaho (US Federal Census)
1911 Boise Idaho (City Directory)
1913 Cheyenne Wyoming
1920 Pueblo Colorado (US Federal Census)

According to Velma Veath's death certificate from the state of Illinois, she is buried in Woodlawn cemetery in Cook County Illinios, but the burial record isn't online. Her husband's name was William Veath. I haven't found any trace of him online yet.

I would also like to find record of her marriage. I don't know what state they were married in. I think the top contenders are Indiana, Illinois, or Colorado. She died of cancer on February 17, 1934. They would have been married between 1920 and 1932, the year her father died. She is listed as having been a housewife for 5 years on her death certificate.

Velma died before her sister Mary Frances (died  1960), and her sister Virginia (died 1952).

Velma may be the biological mother of Virginia's adopted son John Harris.

Do not confuse Velma Kate Rodefer (Daughter of John Franklin Rodefer) with Velma Frances Rodefer (Daughter of Charles W Rodefer)

Mary Frances was born in 1886 in Ohio.
1910 Taylor, Idaho (US Federal Census)
taught in Pueble Colorago (met Oliver Cunningham)
1916 Cheyenne, Wyoming:  married Oliver Cunningham
moved to Briggsdale after marriage
1930 Osgood, Weld, Colorado (US Federal Census)
1960 Dec 20 Died. Buried in Greeley, CO

  2. stephenrodefer.com is worth checking out. Rodefer brothers bought the glass factory just after the civil war and it closed around 1981. Major glass factory. Made streetlight glass covers and headlight lenses for VW bugs among other things.
