Knowing Your History

The following is the story of a family member. I will keep them anonymous.

The beginning of this story goes back to the late 1700's when Honore Timothee Louis Simard and his wife Genevieve Gauthier started their family. The first six children were boys and the last four were girls.

Sister Celina Meinz

Catherine Meinz, daughter of Peter Meinz and Theresa Pohl, was a Catholic Nun.  The following is a transcript of an interview with her.  I don't know who the interviewer was.

The original Simards came from France.  Remember that Pierre (1616) and Noel (1637) were the first Simards to sail over.

The Name of Canada

I was wondering where the name for Canada came from.  Everything I have seen so far calls the area "New France"

The Gautreau Brothers

Gilles and Jean Gautreau were the first Goodreau immigrants in my line to come from France.

Joseph Seymour

Update April 28, 2017:
I found two articles about Joseph Seymour's death. and included information about Blanche Seymour remarrying.

Joseph, my great grandfather, was the sixth child and the fourth son of Charles and Charlotte Seymour. He was born in September 6, 1891.

Charles Seymour

Charles was married in the United States to Charlotte Robert in the Marquette, Michigan area in 1874.  I haven't found any indication that he lived or worked in that area.

Charles Simard

Charles Seymour, my great great grandfather, was the first Seymour in my family to come to the US.  He was also my first brick wall.

The Plains of Abraham

Noel Simard's Bride in New France was Mary-Madeline Racine.  Women were rare in New France, and Madeline was from an old and respected family.  Her mother was the daughter of Abraham Martin, an early explorer of New France.
